Following the departure from Australia of the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery on an Official Visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO.

At Government House, Canberra, the Federation Guard provided a Guard of Honour for a Credentials Ceremony at which the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Filippos Kritiotis, Letters of Commission accrediting him as High Commissioner for the Republic of Cyprus. Afterwards, the Governor-General received Letters of Credence from His Excellency Mr Gabor Csaba,accrediting him as Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary, and Letters of Credence from His Excellency Mr Anibal de Castro, accrediting him as Ambassador of the Dominican Republic.

Their Excellencies the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force and Honorary Colonel of the Special Air Service Regiment, and Mrs Jeffery attended an Order of Australia Investiture Ceremony for Special Air Service Regiment personnel at which the Governor-General as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested six recipients with the insignia of their appointment in the Order of Australia. The Governor-General also presented the Special Air Service Regiment with a Unit Commendation for Gallantry and the Special Operations Command Australia with a Meritorious Unit Commendation.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration, the Honourable Sam Abal, MP; Parliamentary Secretary for Education, the Honourable David Arore, MP; Chief Secretary to Government, Ambassador Mr Isaac Lupari; High Commissioner for Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Mr Charles Lepani; Acting Director General State Protocol, Ms Joan Vanariu MBE; and Official Secretary to the Governor-General of Papua New Guinea, Mr Tipo Vuatha LVO MBE.
