At the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Hobart, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery, as guests of the Deputy Director, Ms Peta Dowell-Hentall, toured the exhibition 'Islands to Ice: The Great Southern Ocean and Antarctica'.

Following the cancellation, due to poor weather, of the proposed trip by Their Excellencies to Antarctica, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery spoke to personnel at Casey Station via a telephone link from Australia Antarctic Division Headquarters in Hobart. General Jeffery praised the work Station members were doing on behalf of the nation.

At Government House, Hobart, Tasmania, the Governor-General received a briefing about the scientific examination of ice-cores extracted from near Casey Station from the Leader of the Australian Antarctic Division Ice, Ocean, Atmosphere and Climate Program, Dr Ian Allison and Australian Antarctic Division Glaciologists, Dr Mark Curran and Dr Tessa Vance.
