In Sydney, the Governor-General prepared to name her first ship, the Pacific Jewel, with a short tour of the bridge and bridge wing accompanied by the CEO of Carnival Australia, Ms Anne Sherry and Captain Lorenzo Paoletti.

The Governor-General officially became the Godmother of the "Pacific Jewel" cruise liner in Sydney on Saturday night, after breaking the traditional bottle of champagne and naming the ship.

The Governor-General and Mr Bryce travelled to HMAS Cerberus, Crib Point, Victoria to attend the Melbourne Naval Undergraduate Officers' Graduation Parade. Around 1200 sailors and officers took part in the parade.

It was a day to celebrate for the 2009 graduates of the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra, with their graduation parade before the Governor-General as Commander-in-Chief. The Governor-General's standard was passed on to the graduating class of 2010 before the parade began.

On a sparkling day at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, the 2009 General Service Graduates paraded before their Commander-in-Chief the Governor-General. After taking the Vice Regal salute, Ms Bryce inspected the corps, and congratulated the graduating officers (see speech).
