Flag Raising Ceremony

The Republic of Vanuatu’s 30^th Anniversary of Independence was celebrated by thousands of people who gathered at Independence Park, Port Vila, including the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE.

Vanuatu military personnel assembled for the Independence Day Flag Raising Ceremony, along with Royal Australian Navy sailors from the minehunters HMAS Huon and HMAS Yarra.

Acting President of the Republic of Vanuatu and Speaker of the Parliament of Vanuatu, Mr George Wells, inspected the military guard, including those from Australia and New Caledonia. A ceremonial three-gun salute also took place.
