The Governor-General presents Clarke Gold Medal to Syb Mundy

6 August 2010

The bravery and courage of one man was recognised by the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, at a Royal Humane Society ceremony at Victoria Barracks Club, Brisbane.

Mr Syb Mundy was awarded the Clarke Gold Medal for assisting his cousin, who was under attack by a 4.5 metre Great White Shark, while surfing at Binalong Bay, Tasmania.

Ms Bryce praised Mr Mundy’s efforts and said it was an honour to share the occasion with him.

“You reassure me that the connections between us are not easily torn, that in the moments when it counts, courage rises in us and shines through,” Ms Bryce said.
