The Governor-General arrives in Sandakan, East Malaysia

The Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, arrived in Sandakan, East Malaysia to represent Australia on the 65th anniversary of the Sandakan Death Marches.

Ms Bryce and Mr Bryce were greeted by the President of the Sandakan Municipal Council, IR Mr James Wong, Deputy Chief Minister and State Minister of Youth and Sports, the Hon Datuk Peter Pang En Yin,  and other Malaysian officials.

The Governor-General was greeted by a Malaysian Honour Guard and saw a Sabah cultural display before departing the airport.

Ms Bryce and Mr Bryce will join more than 500 people, including over 100 Australians, for the memorial service that will take place on Sunday, August 15th at Memorial Park, Sandakan.
