Governor-General visits Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary

The conservation work done by volunteers in Sandakan, East Malaysia was applauded by the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, during a visit to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary.

Ms Bryce and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE met with volunteers, including a number of Australians, who had travelled from around the world to assist the Sanctuary which rehabilitates orphaned Orang Utans and prepares them for return to the wild.

It was an opportunity to see the conservation work in practice, as Ms Bryce and Mr Bryce witnessed ‘feeding time’ in the jungle environment. The Governor-General also met "Michelle", whose care has been sponsored by the Australian Government.
