Melbourne: Royal Children's Hospital visit

6 September 2010

The Governor-General visited the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne to thank neurosurgeons Dr Wirginia Maixner and Dr Alison Wray, who successfully separated two-year old Bangladeshi twins Krishna and Trishna in a 27 hour operation.

Ms Bryce learned that the operation, in November 2009, was the crucial procedure, following two years of lead-up operations.

The Governor-General was shown the operating theatre where the operation was conducted by Dr Maixner, Dr Wray, the Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, Professor Christine Kilpatrick and the Chairman of the Hospital's Board, Mr Tony Beddison AO.
