The Governor-General presented Mr Cullen with the Australian Service Medal 1945-75 with clasp "SW Pacific" and the Australian Defence Medal before a group of family and friends. Mr Cullen served on the HMAS Canberra and HMAS Merkur, before leaving the Navy in 1951. He celebrated his 100th birthday in December 2009.
