As Commander in Chief, the Governor-General awarded the Gloucester Cup to HMAS Newcastle at the Garden Island base in Sydney.

The Gloucester Cup is awarded annually to the Royal Australian Navy ship or submarine judged as the most proficient in all aspects of operations, safety, seamanship, reliability and unit level training. Accompanied by Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Steve Gilmore AM CSC RAN, Ms Bryce congratulated the ship's company for "an extraordinary ethic of collaboration, teamwork, trust and respect", before handing the Cup to the ship's Commanding Officer, Commander Justin Jones RAN.
