The Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE travelled to Afghanistan to visit Australian troops, ahead of their visit to Turkey to commemorate Anzac Day.

The Governor-General travelled to both locations from Dubai aboard an RAAF Hercules. She had lunch with troops in Tarin Kowt and observed a demonstration of the methods used to detect and destroy improvised explosive devices (IEDs), before flying to Kandahar to join the troops at the airbase. Ms Bryce received a briefing on the Chinook helicopter from pilot, Captain Naomi Rogusz and her crew, before returning to Dubai.
