As part of a busy day in Katherine, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce learned of the work of the Good Beginnings Australia Intensive Family Program at the Binjari Community.

11 May 2010

Surrounded by the community's children busy with bikes, playdough and toys, Ms Bryce was introduced to the residents by Mr Nigel Povey, Binjari's Government Business Manager. Later, Ms Bryce visited the headquarters of the Katherine Isolated Children's Service, which provides playgroup services to families over a 750,000 square kilometre district. Some of Katherine's oldest residents welcomed the Governor-General and Mr Bryce to the Rocky Ridge Nursing Home. After a welcome to country by traditional owners and a special birthday celebration, Ms Bryce was presented with a painting by Rocky Ridge resident Ms Dora Robertson.
