The Governor-General travelled to Jasper Gorge, in the Gregory National Park, to join Traditional Owners and members of the Central and Northern Land Councils for the handover of the historic Park from the Federal and Northern Territory governments.

Under the landmark agreement,negotiated between the Northern Territory Government, the Land Councils and the Traditional Owners,the Park has been granted to the Aboriginal Lands Trusts and leased back to the NT Government to be operated under joint management. Several hundred people travelled long distances for the historic ceremony.
