In the Tiwi Islands, just north of Darwin, communities on Melville and Bathurst Islands greeted the Governor-General and Mr Bryce during a short visit.

During the day, Ms Bryce officially opened Tiwi College, at Pickertaramoor, following a traditional dancing welcome. The facility caters for 52 students as boarders. There was also an opportunity for Ms Bryce to inspect the School’s NORFORCE cadet unit. 

Ms Bryce also visited two Tiwi art galleries, which provide an important revenue base for the Islands, and popped in to the Nguiu Aged Care Facility for afternoon tea and a chat.
