The need to highlight women’s participation in sport and society across the globe was raised at the 5th International Working Group World Conference on Women and Sport at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The Governor-General and Mr Bryce met Australian ambassadors for women's sport and Ms Rachel Mayanja, UN Special Adviser on Gender Issues and the Advancement of Women, women's sports stars and international delegates attending the four day conference.

Ms Bryce, patron for the event, addressed over 500 attendees and said issues relating to women’s participation in sport and society deserved "serious and dedicated attention".
