Principals, teachers and educational staff from across Australasia gathered at Ascham School in Edgecliff to discuss issues relating to women and their education.

The 2010 Alliance of Girls’ Schools Conference was opened by the Governor-General with the theme of “Skating on the Glass Ceiling”.

“Antagonists in the late 1800s regarded women’s education as an experiment in feminine intellectual indulgence,” Ms Bryce said.

“The so-called experiment went on to produce our first women voters, university graduates, doctors, lawyers, journalists, editors and our first generation of girls to engage their fathers in robust and worldly debate.”
