The importance of Australia's trading relationship with China and its status as our biggest trading partner was recognised by the Governor-General during the first day of a visit to Shanghai.

Ms Bryce and Mr Bryce travelled across a 32 kilometre bridge to the Shanghai Yangshan Deepwater Port International Shipping Centre, destined to become the world's biggest port.

Later, the Governor-General held talks with Mr Xu Lejiang, Chairman of the giant Shanghai Baosteel Group Corporation"
