Opening of Windorah Community Centre

There was a large turnout from Windorah residents for the opening of the Windorah Community Centre. Over 100 people watched the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, unveil a plaque, as she declared the building open.

"When I look around Windorah and the Barcoo district, I feel like I do when I’m in my old home town of Illfracombe, or when I’m way up north in Kununurra or Jasper Gorge or the Tiwi Islands," Ms Bryce said.

"The land is so much a part of the people, and the people of the land."

Ms Bryce and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE later joined Shire residents for dinner in the new building and were invited to present the shire’s Australia Day Awards. The night concluded with the Windorah Ball.
