The Governor-General and fellow Australians attended a ceremony to lay wreaths at the graves of two WW1 Australian servicemen at the Dar es Salaam War Cemetery in Tanzania. The service commemorated the deaths of Stoker William Bryant, who died on 7 June 1916, aged 25, and Trooper James Arthur Gilbert, who died on 7 July 1917.

The Network has provided water and sanitation facilities for girls to permit them to stay at school in their teenage years, while Plan Kenya has built new classrooms and the World Food Program provides meals for the children.

The Governor-General visited Dr Catherine Hamlin's Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa to meet her staff and patients. The hospital celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The Governor-General extended the warm wishes of individual Australians who have supported the Hospital for many years, and heard plans for the opening of a Midwives College with Australian Government support.
