Overseas Visit by the Governor-General and Mrs Hollingworth

The Governor-General, Dr Peter Hollingworth, and Mrs Hollingworth will be absent from Australia for a fortnight from 13 April.

On 17/18 April, they will by guests at official functions for Governors-General of the Commonwealth and their spouses associated with Her Majesty The Queen's Golden Jubilee. On 19 April, they are attending a Memorial Service for Her Royal Highness The Princess Margaret at Westminster Abbey.

They will then make a state visit to Turkey, as guests of the President of the Republic of Turkey, and take part in services on the Gallipoli Peninsula to commemorate Anzac Day.

Dr and Mrs Hollingworth will then travel to France to attend Anzac Day ceremonies at Villers-Bretonneaux and Bullecourt, and to Texel Island in the Netherlands to join the Prince of Orange in celebrating the arrival of the replica ship, the Duyfken. The ship was built in Western Australia and will arrive on Texel Island on 29 April after an arduous 12 month journey from Sydney with crew members representing every Australian State.

While the Governor-General is overseas, His Excellency the Honourable Sir Guy Green, the Governor of Tasmania, will act as Administrator and reside at Government House in Canberra.
