MESSAGE TO THE BEACONSFIELD COMMUNITY IN TASMANIA

My wife Marlena joins me and all Australians in welcoming the recovery of miners Todd Russell and Brant Webb from the Beaconsfield gold mine.

We can’t imagine the difficulties they faced and the relief they now must feel.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who have helped in the rescue including those who have supported the Russell, Webb and Knight families.

The mateship between the two miners, their courage, fighting spirit and Aussie sense of humour have seen them through this dreadful ordeal.

We wish them a speedy recovery and a joyful reunion with their loved ones.
