BACKGROUND

The Australian Bravery Association’s Annual Service of Remembrance is held in the Bravery Garden at Government House. Based on the Southern Cross, the garden’s message stones depict the Australian Military and Civil Bravery Decorations, commemorate those whose bravery cost them their lives and acknowledge the countless acts of bravery which remain unknown.

Since 1975, there have been 5 awards of the Cross of Valour; 132 awards of the Star of Courage; 898 awards of the Bravery Medal; 1,342 Commendations for Brave Conduct and 62 awards of the Group Bravery Citation.
