STATEMENT BY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL - VISIT TO TURKEY AND EGYPT

The Governor-General has accepted an invitation from the President of the Republic of Turkey to make an official visit to Turkey from 21 – 28 April 2006. While in Turkey the Governor-General will also attend the 91st ANZAC Day commemorative activities in Gallipoli on 24 and 25 April 2006.

The Governor-General has also accepted an invitation to rededicate the 9th Division Memorial at El Alamein in Egypt on Sunday 30 April 2006.

The Governor-General will depart Australia on Wednesday 19 April 2006 and the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, will perform the duties of Administrator to the Commonwealth of Australia during the Governor-General’s absence.
