MEDIA ADVISORY - Professor Christopher O’Brien to Receive Order of Australia at Admiralty House

The Governor-General, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, will present Mrs Gail O’Brien with the insignia of the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO), which was awarded to her late husband, Professor Christopher O’Brien, in the Queen’s Birthday Honour List.  The ceremony will take place on Friday 21 August 2009 at Admiralty House in Sydney.

 

The short ceremony will take place at 2.00 pm.

 

Professor O’Brien was awarded the AO for continued service to medicine and to the community through advocacy and fundraising roles for the development of integrated care and clinical research facilities for people with cancer, particularly the establishment of the Lifehouse Centre at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

 

The media is invited to record the investiture at Admiralty House, and should arrive no later than 1.45pm.  The names of all media wishing to attend should be emailed to sam.begg@gg.gov.au by 5.00pm Thursday 20 August, in order to gain entry to Admiralty House.
