18 April 2010 MEDIA ALERT GOVERNOR-GENERAL FORCED TO CANCEL ATTENDANCE AT FUNERAL OF LATE PRESIDENT LECH KACZYNSKI AND MRS KACZYNSKA The Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, regrettably, has been forced to cancel her attendance at today’s funeral of the late Polish President and his wife, due to her inability to fly into Poland as a result of the closure of European air space. The Governor-General, currently in transit in Dubai will now undertake a short program of visits to the Australian community in Dubai, before travelling on to Turkey for Anzac Day commemorations. Ms Bryce has expressed her great disappointment about her inability to represent Australia, including around 164,000 people of Polish descent, at the State funeral.
