GOVERNOR-GENERAL TO VISIT COMMUNITIES IN NORTHERN TERRITORY, WESTERN AUSTRALIA AND TIWI ISLANDS
The Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE will visit the RAAF Tindal Air Base and communities in the Northern Territory, the north east of Western Australia and the Tiwi Islands from Monday, May 10th to Saturday, May 15th.
Segments of the Governor-General’s program that may be of interest to the media include:
- Monday, May 10:
- 12.00 pm: Meet service personnel at the RAAF Tindal base
- 5.40 pm: Civic Reception, Katherine Council
- Tuesday, May 11:
- 10.00 am: Visit to The Good Beginnings Australia Intensive Family Program at Bingarri
- 11.30 am: Visit to the Katherine Isolated Children’s Service Mobile Van, Katherine
- 2.00 pm: Visit to the Rocky Ridge Aged Care Facility, Katherine
- 4.00 pm: As guests of the Traditional Owners, visit Nitmiluk and meet participants in the Indigenous Ranger Program
- Wednesday, May 12:
- 10.00 am: Attend a tree planting ceremony at the Celebrity Tree Park, Kununurra, in recognition of National Volunteers Week
- 11.00 am: Visit the Youth Co-Location Hub and meet participants in the “Connections” Program and the “Clontarf” Program
- 3.00 pm: Meeting with community nurses and patients at the Kununurra District Hospital in recognition of International Nurses Day
- 5.45 pm: Civic Reception, Kununurra
- Thursday, May 13:
- 3.00 pm: Attend a ceremony at Gregory National Park
- Friday, May 14:
- 10.30 am: Visit the Australian School of Performing Arts’ “Girls from Oz” program, as part of the Halls Creek Better Life project to create opportunities for indigenous girls and young women in Halls Creek
- 6.15 pm: Attend a reception at Somerville Community Centre, Darwin
- Saturday, May 15:
- 10.10 am: Visit to the Jilamara Arts Centre, Milikapiti
- 11.00 am: Meet Traditional Owners and community members at the Melville Fishing Lodge
- 12.35 pm: Attend the opening of the new Tiwi College at Pickertaramoor
- 3.45 pm: Visit the Nguiu Aged Care Facility, Nguiu
- 4.40 pm: Visit Tiwi Designs
