HEARTBREAKING NEWS FOR AUSTRALIA FROM AFGHANISTAN

21 June 2010

The Governor-General and Australia’s Commander-in-Chief, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, said today’s loss of three soldiers, and the injuries endured by their mates, represented a heartbreaking day for Australia.

Ms Bryce honoured the soldiers, and expressed her deep condolences for the families of all the soldiers involved.

“As Commander-in-Chief, I have now visited our troops in Afghanistan twice. I have always been struck by their professionalism, comradeship and strong commitment to their job as part of the Mentoring Task Force”, Ms Bryce said.

“Their job is to work with forces from other nations to help transform Afghanistan into a secure environment. They knew the risks, and met them with real courage”.

“Their families should be assured that those who died and are suffering have done so upholding the values that Australians hold dear”.
