ADVICE FROM THE SOLICITOR-GENERAL TO THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL, HER EXCELLENCY MS QUENTIN BRYCE AC

The Official Secretary to the Governor-General, Mr Stephen Brady, stated today that the Governor-General had received advice from the Solicitor-General of Australia, Mr Stephen Gageler, SC, in relation to Her Excellency’s personal position in the current political circumstances.

Mr Brady said the Governor-General had sought the Solicitor-General’s advice on Monday, 23 August.

“In the interests of transparency, the Governor-General has decided to make both her letter to the Solicitor-General, and his advice publicly available”, Mr Brady said.

 Full copies of the Solicitor-General’s advice and the Governor-General’s letter can be found below. There will be no further comment on the matter from Government House.
