All Australians have been shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of life and injuries sustained in the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina.

My wife and I join all Australians in expressing our deepest sympathies and profound condolences to the families of the victims and out heartfelt thoughts and best wishes go out to those injured. I am confident the strength and resilience of the American people will carry your citizens through this catastrophe.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Laura, your government and the people of the United States at this difficult time.
