VISIT TO THE NORTHERN TERRITORY

The Governor General, Sir William Deane, and Lady Deane will visit the Northern Territory town of Katherine and the nearby RAAF Base, Tindal, on Friday, 6 March.

The visit will take place six weeks after the floods which devastated Katherine and surrounding areas.

Sir William and Lady Deane hope to meet many of the people who worked so hard to assist in the clean up, including Northern Territory police and emergency services.

They also hope to meet civilian volunteers who helped, including people from two organisations with which they have special connections. They are the Red Cross, of which Lady Deane is the National President, and St John's Ambulance. Sir William is Prior of the Order of St. John in Australia.

The Governor General and Lady Deane will also visit the Kalano Town Camp, and meet members of the Katherine and district business community. They will also meet with members of the RAAF at the Tindal Base.
