GOVERNOR-GENERAL TO ATTEND ECUMENICAL SERVICE

After consultation with the Prime Minister, the Governor-General is planning to travel to Switzerland next week to be present at an Ecumenical Memorial Service to be held in Interlaken on Thursday next, 5 August, at 2 p.m. local time for those killed in the canyoning tragedy. Sir William will also meet with relatives of the Australians who were killed and who are in Switzerland at the time he is there. Sir William will be accompanied by Lady Deane.

A national ecumenical service for the victims of the tragedy and their families will be held at St Christopher's Cathedral in Canberra at 12 noon on Monday, 9 August. The service will be attended by the Governor-General, the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, Members of Parliament, Diplomatic Representatives and others. Members of the public are invited to attend.
