On Thursday, 30 January, 2003 at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Dr Peter Hollingworth, received from His Excellency Mr Milivoje Glisic Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Radomir Jergic, (Counsellor) and Mrs Jasmina Gavrilovic-Tarle (Attache) Embassy of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Dr Hollingworth and Mrs Hollingworth also received Mrs Vida Rakic-Glisic.

On Wednesday, 22 January 2003, the Governor-General received the following message from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales: "I was utterly appalled to learn of the loss of life and destruction wreaked by the terrible fires of last week. My thoughts and prayers go out to the bereaved and all those suffering as a result of this terrifying inferno - as well as to the fire fighters and other emergency services as they continue to tackle the blaze and its devastating results."

On Tuesday, 21 January 2003, the Governor-General, Dr Peter Hollingworth, received the following message from Her Majesty The Queen: "I have been following over recent days the accounts of the serious bush fires in many parts of Australia, and was deeply shocked by the news of the terrible fires in Canberra over this weekend. I would be grateful if you would pass on my deepest sympathy to the bereaved and injured, and to all those who have lost property and possessions in this devastating tragedy."

On Monday, 20 January 2003, the Governor-General, Dr Peter Hollingworth and Mrs Hollingworth visited victims of the Canberra Fires and volunteers at the Evacuation Centres at Narrabundah College and Phillip College. Afterwards, Dr Hollingworth and Mrs Hollingworth toured home sites affected by fires and spoke with residents in the Weston Creek area.

On Sunday, 19 January 2003, at the Emergency Services Bureau, Curtin, ACT, the Governor-General, Dr Peter Hollingworth and Mrs Hollingworth attended a briefing on the Canberra Fire Tragedy by the Chief Minister Mr Jon Stanhope, the ACT Police Chief John Murray, and Emergency Services Chief Mark Castle. Afterwards, at the Winchester Centre, Belconnen, Dr Hollingworth and Mrs Hollingworth, as guests of the Deputy Commissioner Mandy Newton, visited staff in the Australian Federal Police Operation Centre. Later, at Lake Ginninderra College, Belconnen, they visited volunteers and victims of the fires at the Evacuation Centre. Afterwards, at Canberra Hospital, Woden, Dr Hollingworth and Mrs Hollingworth visited staff at Emergency.
