On Thursday, 12 August 2004, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery, AC, CVO, MC received representatives of the United Grand Lodge of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory: the Grand Master, Mr Tony Lauer; and the Chairman of the Board of Management, Mr Alan Farrell.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received representatives of the Bluearth Institute: the Chairman, Mr Adrian Knight; the Chief Executive, Mr David Simpson; and a Member of the Bluearth Captains' Club, Ms Shane Gould. In the evening, at Parliament House, Sydney, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended a dinner at which the Governor-General, as Patron-in-Chief of the Kokoda Track Foundation, delivered the 2004 Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Honner Leadership Oration. Earlier, at the Kirribilli Yacht Squadron, NSW, Mrs Jeffery, as guest of honour of the Clifton Gardens Catholic Women's League, attended a luncheon and delivered the keynote address.
