On Friday 6 July 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), attended a meeting between the Portuguese Secretary of State for Internationalisation, Mr Eurico Brilhante Dias, and the European Australian Business Council at the Tivoli Avendia Liberdade Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of General Frederico Duarte, Army Chief of Staff, and Colonel Frederico Alberquerque, Director, visited the Portuguese Military Museum and met with former Portuguese members of the International Force East Timor (INTERFET).
Later, Their Excellencies, as guests of Mr Fernando Medina, Mayor of Lisbon, attended a lunch at the Lisbon Town Hall.
In the afternoon, Their Excellencies, as guests of Ms Leonor Beleza, Chair, Champalimaud Foundation, visited the Foundation’s research hospital and met with medical practitioners, researchers and other staff.
In the evening, Their Excellencies, as guests of His Excellency Mr Peter Rayner, the Australian Ambassador to Portugal, attended a reception for Australians living and working in Portugal and members of the European Australian Business Council, at the Tivoli Avendia Liberdade Hotel.
