50th anniversary of the Australian honours system
This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Australian honours system, which was established on 14 February 1975.
The anniversary is a chance to reflect on the extraordinary Australians that have been celebrated in the first five decades and think about the next 50 years of the Australian honours system.
Recipients of Australian honours have contributed in diverse and wide-ranging fields. While some are household names the vast majority are unsung heroes. The common characteristics are that recipients are selfless, have worked tirelessly in their chosen field, going above and beyond to have an impact.
The story of recipients reminds us that care, kindness, and respect are what matter most to all Australians. Collectively, their achievements are the story of who we are and the nation we are becoming.
As we look forward to the next 50 years of Australian honours there will be events and content shared to acknowledge recipients and their significant achievements, and to learn more about the honours system.
This year, enjoy celebrating 50 years of uplifting and honouring Australians with us!
