On Tuesday 14 December 2021, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, as guests of Mr Michael Goldman, Chargé d'Affaires, attended a presentation at which the Silver Star was awarded to the late WO2 Kevin Wheatley at the Embassy of the United States of America.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley received Mr George Petrou OAM, Author, 'The Art of Sacrifice’ and Mr Michael Madden, Author, 'The Victoria Cross Australia Remembers' and 'Dasher: The Kevin Wheatley VC Story'.
Later, the Governor-General received His Excellency Mr Sisavath Inphachanh, Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
Then, the Governor-General received His Excellency Mr Wahidullah Waissi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a dinner for the 2020 and 2021 Australian Academy of Science Honorific Awards.
Earlier, the Governor-General was represented by Mr Paul Singer MVO for the departure from Canberra of His Excellency Moon Jae-in, President of the Republic of Korea, and Mrs Kim Jung-sook, at RAAF Base Fairbairn.
