On Tuesday 23 June 2026, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, received Letters of Credence, accrediting His Excellency Mr Malek Alwazzan as the Ambassador of Kuwait, at Government House, Canberra. The Ambassador was accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Zainab Almousawi; Mr Ahmad Ben Yousef, Counsellor; Mr Meshari Almesbah, Second Secretary; and Mr Abdullah Alosaimi, Attache’.

 

Then, the Governor-General, received Letters of Credence, accrediting His Excellency Dr Olufemi Olusegun Pedro as the High Commissioner of Nigeria, at Government House, Canberra. The High Commissioner was accompanied by his spouse, Justice Jumoke Olusola Pedro; Mr Abba Mustapha, Minister Counsellor; Mr Chukwinuebuka Emekekwe Paul, First Secretary; and Mrs Adeola Lawal, First Secretary.

 

Afterwards, the Governor-General, received Letters of Credence, accrediting Her Excellency Ms Dayangku Nooraslena Pengiran Sallehuddin as the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam, at Government House, Canberra. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr Mohamed Nawawi Haji Bolhasan, Second Secretary; Lieutenant Colonel Fakhrul Ammar Mohammad Isa, Defence Adviser; and Mr Mohammad Rafiuddin Sabtu, Third Secretary.  

 

Later, the Governor-General met students and teacher from Jones Hill State School, Jones Hill, Queensland, as they undertook a tour of Government House, Canberra.

 

In the afternoon, the Governor-General hosted a lunch for newly appointed Heads of Missions at Government House, Canberra. Guests included: His Excellency Mr Malek Alwazzan, Ambassador of Kuwait, and his spouse, Mrs Zainab Almousawi, His Excellency Dr Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, High Commissioner for Nigeria, and his spouse, Justice Jumoke Olusola Pedro, Her Excellency Ms Dayangku Nooraslena Pengiran Sallehuddin, High Commissioner, and Mr Mohamed Nawawi Haji Bolhasan, Second Secretary, High Commission of Brunei Darussalam. Also, in attendance were: Her Excellency Ms Betty Pavelich, Dean of the Diplomatic Corp, Dr Fiona Webster, representing the Foreign Minister, Mr Jonathan Muir, Chief of Protocol and Mr Adeel Khan, Deputy Chief of Protocol. 

 

Then, the Governor-General met students and teacher from Marist College, Ashgrove, Queensland, as they undertook a tour of Government House, Canberra.

 

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Australian Head of Mission Designate for Nauru at Government House, Canberra. 

 

In the evening, the Governor-General, as guest of the Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Chair of the Council, attended the official opening reception for the Atrium and Anzac Hall at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.
