On Tuesday 17 September 2024, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, travelled from Sydney, New South Wales to Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.

Then, the Governor-General, as guest of Mr Michael Thomas, Group Manager of Immigration and Compliance, Department of Home Affairs, attended a Citizenship Ceremony to celebrate National Citizenship Day.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as guest of the Honourable Dr Andrew Leigh MP, officially opened a new public exhibition space at the Royal Australian Mint.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General met with students and teachers from Umina Public School, Umina, New South Wales, as they undertook a tour of Government House. 

Then, the Governor-General received His Excellency Mr Sonam Tobgay, Ambassador of Bhutan, Mr Ugyen Dorji, Deputy Head of Mission, and Mrs Metho Dema, First Secretary, Embassy of Bhutan.

Afterwards, the Governor-General gave Royal Assent to legislation.
