On Tuesday 13 January 2026, the Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC and His Excellency Mr Simeon Beckett SC, travelled from Sydney, New South Wales to Horn Island, Queensland. On arrival at Horn Island airport, Their Excellencies were greeted by Torres Strait Community Leaders and welcomed by Ms Enid Tom, Kaurareg Elder and Traditional Owner. 

In the afternoon, Their Excellencies travelled from Horn Island to Thursday Island, Queensland.

Then, Their Excellencies, as guests of Mr Lui Ned David, Executive Chair, Gur A Baradharaw Kod, Torres Strait Sea and Land Council Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Corporation, attended a public exhibition showcasing historical collections from the 1936 Torres Strait Islander Maritime Strike, at the Anglican Hall, Thursday Island.

Afterwards, Their Excellencies, as guests of Ms Anna Drummon, Project Manager, Torres Strait Regional Authority, visited the Butal Ina Ngapa Buy and the 2020 Gab Titui Indigenous Art Award gallery exhibitions, at Gab Titui Cultural Centre, Thursday Island. 

In the evening, Their Excellencies met with Mr Lui Ned David, Executive Chair, Gur A Baradharaw Kod, Torres Strait Sea and Land Council Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Corporation.
