The Governor-General and Mr Beckett recently welcomed members from the Australia Nepal Friendship Society, including the Non-Resident Nepali Association, to Government House following the devastating flash flood disaster in Nepal.  
The community — including leaders, organisations and volunteers — has been working tirelessly with broader organisations to support relief and recovery efforts in Nepal, and the Governor-General wished to recognise their genuine care and generosity on behalf of all Australians, thanking them for the significant fundraising and practical support they are providing.

The Governor-General passed on her condolences for the devastating loss of lives in the disaster, and acknowledged the strength and resilience of the Nepalese-Australian community. She thanked Kumar Sapkota, President of the Australia Nepal Friendship Society, for his remarks, as well as those present, including many Past-Presidents of the Society, for sharing their reflections and stories of the various efforts they have made, and continue to make to the relief effort during this difficult time.  The Governor-General was honoured to receive a token of appreciation from the community on behalf of all Australians in recognition of the friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
