Ceremonial Welcome for His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

14 October 2026

On Wednesday the 14th of October, 2026, the Governor-General and Mr Beckett welcomed His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, to Government House in Canberra on his State Visit to Australia.

Ten years since His Majesty’s last official visit, and just one year after Australia and Jordan marked 50 years of diplomatic relations, the visit celebrated a friendship founded on mutual respect and strengthened by the many Australians of Jordanian heritage who enrich our communities, professions, businesses and arts.

His Majesty was welcomed with a Smoking Ceremony led by Ngunnawal man Joel Bulger, followed by a Ceremonial Welcome on the Lakeside Lawn, including a Royal Salute and Guard of Honour.

In bilateral discussions, the Governor-General and His Majesty reflected on the enduring ties between Australia and Jordan, including a shared commitment to the wellbeing of those who serve, particularly veterans and their families.

The visit continued with a State Lunch attended by leaders from defence, veterans, diplomacy, mental health, community and the arts sectors, before His Majesty was shown through Government House and its grounds, meeting some very special guests along the way.
