The Governor-General visited Oaks Ranch, where she met with local innovators who are working together to develop the Eurobodalla Shire’s food systems for the future.

Over a lunch inspired by the best of the region’s local produce, the Governor-General heard from local leaders working across aquaculture, agriculture and sustainable land use, including Ewan McAsh from Oyster Life, Sarah Gorst from South Coast Seaweed, Peter Heyward from SAGE, Kelly Eastwood from Eastwood’s Deli, Ian Duthie from SeaPerfect, and Fiona McCuaig from Walawani Way & Bodalla Dairy Shed. Showcasing sustainably produced local food, including locally harvested oysters and seaweed, the lunch highlighted the innovation and collaboration strengthening the region’s economy and tourism.

The Governor-General also met Emma Kelly-Walters, the region’s representative to the NSW Youth Parliament, who spoke passionately about the importance of youth engagement in civics and public life. The group shared stories about finding unique ways to support their communities during the Black Summer fires.

The Governor-General thanked all involved in so generously hosting the visit and sharing a lunch that showcased the very best of the region’s sustainable produce, including the owners of Oaks Ranch, Martin and Lisa Cork.
