The Governor-General started her visit to the New South Wales South Coast by spending time with business, community and service leaders across the Eurobodalla region.

Hosted by Cr Mathew Hatcher, Mayor of Eurobodalla Shire Council, she joined local business chamber representatives and community leaders in Batemans Bay to better understand the opportunities, challenges and priorities shaping the region. They talked about the strength of community connection across the South Coast, which has been so important in the region’s recovery from bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Governor-General also met with members of the Batemans Bay Rotary Club to learn more about their partnerships and volunteer initiatives. She heard about Rotary’s support for scholarships at local schools and learner driver programs, as well as the extraordinary support that Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) provides to communities around the world.

The Governor-General acknowledged the generosity, leadership and dedication demonstrated by businesses, volunteers and community organisations throughout the South Coast, and thanked Cr Mathew Hatcher for his warm welcome and ongoing commitment to the Eurobodalla community.
