At the invitation of the governments of Japan, Mongolia and Vietnam the Governor-General and Mr Beckett SC will officially visit each country to celebrate and strengthen Australia’s bilateral relationships.
“I look forward to representing Australia in Japan, Mongolia and Vietnam. I am hopeful that these visits will celebrate and strengthen our relationships, which, in each case, are underpinned by strong people-to-people links,” the Governor-General said.
During the visit to Japan the Governor-General will be welcomed by Her Imperial Highness Crown Princess Kiko and Her Imperial Highness Princess Kako. The focus of the visit is celebrating and showcasing Australia to a global audience at World Expo 2025 Osaka. More than 150 countries and regions are gathered at the World Expo and the Governor-General’s visit coincides with our pavilion’s national day celebration – when the focus of the Expo will be on Australian culture, innovation and future opportunities.
During the historic state visit to Mongolia – the first by a Governor-General in more than 30 years – the Governor-General will meet with His Excellency Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, President of Mongolia and celebrate the growing links between our democratic nations. During the time in Mongolia, the Governor-General will visit the Oyu Tolgoi mine and focus on economic links and opportunities for both nations.
During the state visit to Vietnam, the Governor-General will meet with senior Vietnamese leaders in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The visit will highlight Australia’s role as a trusted and reliable partner and showcase the growing momentum in our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The Governor-General will celebrate the expanding cooperation between our countries across education, trade, defence and people to people links including by opening the Vietnam Australia Forum and the engaging with business.
Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales will serve as Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia during the period of the visit (1 September - 13 September).
