At the invitation of the governments of Samoa and Tuvalu, the Governor-General and Mr Simeon Beckett SC will officially visit each country from 30 May to 3 June.
“I look forward to representing Australia in Samoa and Tuvalu. These visits will strengthen and celebrate our important Pacific partnerships, underpinned by strong people-to-people links and shared efforts to address the pressing challenges of our time,” the Governor-General said.
In Samoa, Deputy Prime Minister the Hon. Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molio’o will greet the Governor-General and Mr Beckett. Their Excellencies will meet His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II, Head of State of Samoa, and join Prime Minister La’aulialemalietoa and community representatives to mark Samoa’s 64th Anniversary of Independence. They will also attend the ceremonial handover of the Australian Government-supported Samoa Parliamentary Precinct buildings and meet with organisations working across health, gender equality, development, and climate resilience, highlighting the strength of the Australia–Samoa partnership.
In Tuvalu, Their Excellencies will be welcomed by His Excellency Reverend Sir Tofiga Vaevalu Filani, GCMG MBE, Governor-General of Tuvalu, in the first high-level visit since the announcement that Tuvalu will host a leaders’ meeting in the lead-up to COP31. The Governor-General and Mr Beckett will meet with Deputy Prime Minister the Hon. Panapasi Nelesone, tour the Australian Government-supported Tuvalu Coastal Adaptation Project (TCAP), officiate at the opening of the second chancery in the diplomatic network to be powered by 100% renewable energy, and meet with education, gender equality and community groups.
Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, will serve as Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia during the period of the visit.
