Governor-General to visit Samoa, Tonga, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Cook Islands and Vanuatu
The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will visit Samoa, Tonga, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Cook Islands and Vanuatu from 21 – 29 June.
The visit is an opportunity to celebrate and further strengthen the close bonds between Australia and our Pacific friends. The visit includes meetings with:
- (Samoa) Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aleto’a Sualauvi II and the Honourable Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa
- (Tonga) His Majesty King Tupou VI, the Honourable Prime Minister Hu’akavameiliku and Honourable Cabinet Ministers
- (Kiribati) His Excellency President Taneti Maamau
- (Tuvalu) Governor-General, Reverend Sir Tofiga Vaevalu Falani, GCMG MBE
- Cook Islands) His Excellency the King’s Representative Sir Tom Marsters and the Honourable Prime Minster Mark Brown
- (Vanuatu) His Excellency President Nikenike Vurobaravu, and the Honourable Prime Minister, Alatoi Ishmael Kalsakau Maau’koro
In each country, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will also spend time in the local community and see projects where our nations work together – including initiatives in the education, health, defence, environment sectors
Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC CVO, Governor of Victoria, will serve as Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia during the visit
