Governor-General to visit Thailand
The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will visit Thailand from 13 – 17 February to celebrate the longstanding relationship between our nations and our extensive people-to-people links.
During the visit the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will have a royal audience with Their Majesties King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana. Reflecting the personal connections that underpin our nations’ friendship, the Governor-General and The King were classmates at Royal Military College – Duntroon from 1972-1975.
“Australia is proud of our close relationship with Thailand. It is a friendship that spans many areas of cooperation and is based on mutual respect, trust and understanding. I am looking forward to celebrating and strengthening that relationship,” the Governor-General said.
The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will also:
- Meet with Mr Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister, and the Cabinet of Thailand
- Have an audience with the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand
- Celebrate the links between Australia and Thailand across business, defence, education, the environment and development projects, and
- Visit the Doi Tung Development Project and the Mekong-Australia Partnership climate resilience project site in Chiang Rai to learn about how Australia and Thailand are working side-by-side to realise new opportunities and address challenges.
Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, will serve as Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia during the visit.
