The Governor-General recently visited Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick, spending time with nurses, doctors and staff, and touring the hospital’s recently opened facilities.
Touring the hospital’s new facilities, the Governor-General learned about the significant expansion of paediatric health, research and education services, including the enhanced emergency department, day oncology centre, neuroscience facilities and innovative virtual care services connecting children and families across New South Wales.
She also toured the Hospital’s children’s playground, and newly opened Pets Park where young patients can spend time with their pets.
The Governor-General thanked Ms Cathryn Cox PSM, Chief Executive Officer, and Mr Tim Hoffman, Director of Redevelopment, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, for hosting the visit, and expressed her gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses, researchers and support staff whose expertise, compassion and commitment deliver world-class care for children and their families.
During the visit, she acknowledged the courage, resilience and spirit of the children she met, including 14-year-old Lawson Wynter, who continues treatment for leukaemia. She also thanked parents, carers and families for the support they provide every day.
