SPECIAL HONOURS LIST IN RESPONSE TO THE BONDI TERROR ATTACK

This announcement was published to the Governor-General’s social media accounts on Wednesday, 24 December 2025.

Following advice from the Prime Minister, the Governor-General has approved the creation of a special honours list to recognise the bravery and service of people in response the Bondi Beach terror attack.

The Australian Bravery Decorations recognise acts of bravery where people selflessly put themselves in jeopardy to protect the lives or property of others. The Order of Australia celebrates Australians who make an outstanding contribution to the community – at the local, national or international level.  The Bravery Decorations Council and the Council for the Order of Australia have met to commence consideration of existing nominations.

The work of the Councils and the Australian honours system is driven by nominations from the Australian public.  If you know of someone who may be worthy of recognition, please nominate them to allow them to be properly considered. The Councils will consider all nominations and make recommendations to the Governor-General.
