The Governor-General joins Australians in remembering the Hon Bruce Baird AM and his remarkable life of public service.

His vast impact in New South Wales as a Minister, and to Australia through his significant role in securing the 2000 Olympics, is eclipsed only by his character — his deep care for humanitarian issues and the dignity of others and, in the words of his family, his bold, courageous, larger-than-life spirit that will be so deeply missed by his family and many, many friends.

The Governor-General extends her sincere condolences to Bruce’s family at this time of sudden, devastating loss — his children Mike, Julia and Steve, his many grandchildren and great-grandchild; and his many treasured friends and colleagues, as well as all who felt his warmth and care.

May he rest in peace.
